What is Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual direction is actually a misnomer, for the only true spiritual director is the Holy Spirit.
The ministry of spiritual direction, also called spiritual accompaniment, is about being present to another as they endeavour to become more aware of the Holy in their life.
The one who accompanies reflects back what they have heard of the other’s dreams, desires, concerns and anxieties; at times asking questions for clarification. In this way the other may become more in touch with their own inner Wisdom which guides them towards the presence of the Holy.
If you are feeling that something is missing in your life, or perhaps a desire for something more – even if you can’t quite name what it is – this might be a sign that spiritual direction/accompaniment is for you.
